A guide to the artist studio: uploading, pricing and getting paid

Signing in

Artists sign in through their own entrance rather than the shop, so it is always clear which account you are using. That separation exists because artists frequently also shop, and mixing the two makes orders and earnings hard to tell apart.

Use your artist address for selling and a personal one for buying.

Uploading work

Upload the largest original you have. A small preview is derived from it for browsing, and the press uses the original — so the quality of what you send is the quality of what gets printed.

For each piece, choose which products it suits and which style it is. Both drive how customers find it.

Taking commissions

Commissions are opt-in. Switching them on lets customers send you briefs, and you set an hourly rate and describe packages built from it. Customers see a firm total rather than the rate itself.

You can decline any brief, and nothing is charged to a customer until you accept.

Seeing what you have earned

Every sale appears as it happens, showing what it was and what you earned. A monthly statement gathers them up, shows any deductions and what was transferred.

Add your PAN before your first payout — tax is deducted at a higher rate without one, which is money out of your pocket rather than paperwork.

Your public page

Your handle is your address and stays fixed, because links you share have to keep working. Your name, description and work are public; your PAN and bank details never are.

Keeping your listings healthy

Revisit older pieces occasionally. A design uploaded before you thought about which products it suited is probably offered on things it should not be, and that is a two-minute fix.

Withdraw work you no longer want representing you. Orders already placed still pay you, and the listing simply stops appearing.

Add your payout details before you need them

The most common reason a first payment is delayed is a missing bank detail or PAN. Both take a minute and neither is urgent until it suddenly is.

Doing it on the day you are approved means the first sale is paid on the normal schedule rather than the one after it.

Check how your work looks to a stranger

Open your own public page while signed out occasionally. What you see is what a potential customer sees, and it is frequently not what you assumed — a missing description, a piece you meant to withdraw, a style tag that no longer fits.

Five minutes of that is worth more than any amount of uploading.

How to start

Everything runs through one place. Artists sign in at the artist studio, upload work, choose which products each piece suits, and see what they have earned. Customers browse the artwork, pick a design, and choose what to put it on.

Nothing about it is exclusive. You can sell the same work elsewhere at the same time, and there is no listing fee and no minimum.
